Matt Canine of East Paces Group completes CFP® Certification

Matt Canine, formerly with Fidelity Investments, made the career decision last year to join the boutique advisory firm of East Paces Group in Buckhead. This transition provided Canine with the opportunity to complete his CERTIFIED FINACIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) certification, one of the most recognized accredited certifications in the advisory industry.

Canine represents a continuing growth trend in the advisory industry where advisors are leaving large name-brand companies for smaller scale, flexible, independent advisory firms. Whether it’s the ability to offer more hands-on services, or the variability to provide non-proprietary products, clients and advisors alike are enjoying the tailor-made models these smaller firms are offering.

“Honestly, I never thought I’d leave Fidelity,” says Canine, “but once I did a little homework and realized the negligible differences between the larger and smaller companies, I knew a firm like East Paces Group was best for my clients.”  He goes on to add that his clients expect him to improve his overall service model from time to time, and he feels they should. “I set a yearly goal to review the products, fees, and services my clients receive from my firm and me. The CFP® is simply one aspect of several things I’m doing to improve the overall advisory experience for clients and potential clients alike.”

Indeed, the CFP® certification is a noteworthy benchmark for roughly 20% of advisors who complete the full requirements. The CFP® mark identifies those individuals who have met the rigorous experience and ethical requirements of the CFP® Board, have successfully completed financial planning coursework and have passed the CFP® Certification Examination covering the following areas: the financial planning process, risk management, investments, tax planning and management, retirement and employee benefits, and estate planning.  CFP® professionals also agree to meet ongoing continuing education requirements and to uphold CFP® Board’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Conduct.

Alex Reffett, one of the lead partners of East Paces Group, has taken notice. “When we recruited Matt, we knew instantly he had a vision and a plan for changing the status quo. He wants to create an advisory experience second to none for his clients, and the CFP® certification was only one step of many.” It appears East Paces Group gives advisors like Matt Canine the financial stability to build a premiere practice while offering the autonomy to add selected resources when warranted. Added Canine, “The best is yet to come, and I’m looking forward to expanding my abilities.”
